Privacy policy

Your diary stays on your phone

Second Gear has no accounts and no sign-in. Your scores, notes, ticks, weight and nickname are kept on your phone, and we never see them.

Last updated: 25 October 2026. Second Gear is a product of Mindful Runner (Pty) Ltd, a company registered in South Africa ("we", "us").

In short

What stays on your phone

Your symptom scores, reflections, week notes, ticks, the symptoms you track, your weight, your nickname and your settings. They are stored in the app's own storage on your device. We have no copy and no way to see them.

Your weight is used only to work out protein and fluid ranges on your phone. It is never shown back to you in the app, and never sent anywhere.

Backups and copies you make

Your phone's own backup (iCloud on iPhone, Google backup on Android) may include the app's data, under Apple's or Google's terms and your own backup settings.

If you use Keep a copy or A page for my doctor, the app makes a file on your phone and opens your share sheet. Where that file goes is up to you.

What leaves your phone

Content downloads

The app downloads Debbie's daily pages from our website. The request contains nothing about you. Like any website, our host (Cloudflare) briefly handles your IP address to deliver the file. We don't use it to identify you.

Purchases

Subscriptions, free trials, gift codes and refunds are handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play) under their privacy policies. The store tells the app on your phone whether your subscription is active. We receive sales reports from the stores, which do not identify you to us.

News from Debbie (optional)

Only if you tick the box and type your email, we send that email address to our mailing provider so Debbie can send you news, about four times a year. Every email has an unsubscribe link. You don't need an email to use, buy, restore or move the app.

Reminders

Reminders are scheduled on your phone. No server is involved.

Health information

Symptom scores and notes are health information. Because they never leave your phone, we do not collect or process them. Please keep your phone locked if others use it.

Your rights

Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to its use. In practice, the only personal information we can hold is your email address, and only if you signed up for news. Email support@mindfulrunner.co.za and we will act on your request.

To erase your diary, use Settings, Erase everything on this phone, or delete the app. To cancel a subscription, use your App Store or Google Play account settings.

If you're unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa): inforegulator.org.za.

Children

Second Gear is made for adult women and is not meant for anyone under 18.

Changes

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. If we ever wanted to collect more, we would ask you in the app first.
